Billy and Jeanne Brewer have been married for 31 years. They have two children and 3 grandchildren. Jeanne has worked in the printing industry for 19 years and Billy owned his own trucking company for many years. In 1985 Billy found out that he had diabetes. He tried to manage his disease through nutrition and oral medications but was never able to get his blood sugar levels under control. His doctor wanted to put him on insulin but the DMV did not allow anyone on insulin to drive a truck for a living so he continued on the same path he was on for 16 years. Early in 2001 Billy came home after driving all day and said that he needed to go to the eye doctor because his vision was becoming increasingly blurred. That day changed the lives of Billy and Jeanne. They found out that Billy was losing his sight due to diabetes. Since that day he has had 11 eye surgeries and has no sight in one eye and only 20/400 in the other. He has not driven any vehicle or worked since 2001. Since that time Billy has also developed kidney disease. He is now on the national kidney transplant list and is awaiting a transplant.

Billy received his MedicTag as a gift from his sister in Texas. He was thrilled with it. It has simplified his life and has eased Jeanne's mind. She knows that if something happens to him when she is not around the rescue personel will know all of his history.

When discussing the cost of his upcoming kidney transplant, the couple were trying to figure out how they would pay for the sugery. All of the normal ways of fund raising came to mind. During the discussion Billy had an idea. He knew how excited he was when he received his MedicTag and figured there are alot of other people who would feel the same way. That's when they decided that instead of begging for money for a transplant they would start a small business selling MedicTag. The profits from the business could be used to finance the transplant.
